USB 3.0
Also known as the SuperSpeed bus, USB 3.0 increases the maximum transfer rate
to 5.0 Gbit/s.
It requires receiver testing to ensure interoperability at a BER of
10-12 or better through Jitter Tolerance testing. The BERTScope Family
of products has you covered, with a simple setup and tools that go beyond simple pass/fail
compliance so you can get troubleshooting done quickly.
What's New for USB Testing?
Symbol Filtering
In 8b/10b systems like USB 3.0, clock compensation symbols are
often used to adjust for slightly different received and transmitted data rates. This can cause
problems when testing in loopback mode, as a non-deterministic number of clock compensation symbols
may be present in the data stream, making it difficult for the detector to synchronize with a given
test pattern. With the Symbol Filtering Software Option, the BERTScope can perform this
“asynchronous” BER and Jitter Tolerance testing, making USB 3.0 receiver compliance
testing simple and straightforward.

Why Choose BERTScope for USB 3.0 Testing?
Complete Receiver Compliance:
- Jitter Tolerance testing to the USB 3.0 template for pass/fail
results, or explore the boundaries of Device or Host performance using the Jitter
Tolerance "Search" mode
- The BERTScope can generate jitter (i.e., 2UI = 400 ps of SJ at
500 kHz and 0.17UI of RJ) and Spread Spectrum Clock (SSC) simultaneously
- Generates true random Jitter (RJ) to and beyond 1E-12 margin
- Supports synchronous and asynchronous BER testing
- Ability to synchronize the test equipment to the test device
clock using the BERTScope CR for true measurements of receiver amplitude and jitter
margin with SSC
- Filtering of clock compensation symbols, such as SKP ordered sets
for asynchronous BER measurements and Jitter Tolerance testing
- Programmable pre-emphasis with the BERTScope DPP for compliance to
USB 3.0 and other serial bus standards
- Host and Device loopback initiation
Transmitter Testing:
Jitter, eye opening specified at 10-12 BER,
easily measured with BERTScope
- Built-in SuperSpeed USB Equalization function is easily applied
using BERTScope PatternVu option to view eye performance after equalizer and compliance
channel
- Automated measurements, such as the SSC waveform modulation rate,
SSC deviation, and transmitter de-emphasis ratio, go beyond compliance
