Just For Fun...

Science Puzzler

Q: When seen from the side, searchlight beams appear to bend back downwards. Does the beam get scattered or refracted downward by the atmosphere?

A: The apparent bending of a searchlight beam is an illusion that depends on a person's perception of the sky as an overhead spherical dome. Holding a straight-edge along your view of the beam will convince you that the beam is really straight.

Guess What?
